Technological advancement is everywhere we look. But I don’t need to tell you that—it’s apparent in the things we interact with on a daily basis. From facial recognition on the iPhone X, to the power of artificial intelligence on the Amazon Echo, to the segways we ride around here in our office, technological innovation is everywhere and it's disrupting, transforming, and reinventing everything in its path.
This technological disruption rings especially true within an area I hold near and dear to my heart: Talent Acquisition. Don’t get me wrong—I realize that technology is not a new phenomenon in recruitment. I mean, when’s the last time you searched the newspaper classifieds to find a job? Or the last time you saw a recruiter flip through the White Pages to find a candidate’s phone number? Believe it or not, these were the norms not that long ago. We can thank technology for these practices falling to the wayside.
But now, it seems the advances in the space are making bigger jumps then ever, and at a rate previously never seen. The companies that don’t adapt and invest in these changes are destined to fall behind. What does this mean for the people who currently live, breath, and pay their bills through recruiting? Are robots coming for our jobs? If you ask me, I’d say quite the contrary. Technology will never replace us, rather it will only empower us and help us do our jobs even better.
So rather than being fearful of these coming changes, lets collectively embrace them. Technology can enhance our health, relationships, and work experiences. It can even make us laugh (I hear Alexa has a few good cracks up her sleeve)! It’s up to us to utilize these advancements and drive value not only for our own sake, but more importantly, for the benefit of our clients.
